December 1, 2008Dear Friends of the UK Youth Climate Coalition,
We Won’t Pull Any Punches
This month is a very special one for us. Since the idea of the UK YCC came alive on a ship in the high Arctic, we knew we wanted to be at the vital UN talks on climate change. We wanted to share with everyone the story of the negotiations and to make sure that our decision makers know what our generation needs.
On Thursday, the first ever UK Youth Delegation travelled overland to the UN climate change negotiations in Poland to join over 450 other young people from over 50 countries.
We are here to engage with the negotiators, create exciting stunts and to say honestly what is going on. We have come to realise that we’re the only group who don’t have any press officers to stop us from saying what we feel and that if do speak the unspeakable, we don’t have any jobs to loose by being honest. So expect some hard-hitting statements if we believe what is going on will not preserve a safe climate for us all.
We are continually updating our website - www.ukyd.org - with news, images and videos, so make sure to check up on the progress and let us know if you have anything you’d like us to pass on!
Our Time Is Now!
- Ready for a clean energy economy
- Ready for 21st century transport
- Ready for green jobs
Matt will be one of the speakers, so – if you weren’t already planning to – join the UK YCC on Saturday!
Being launched in Poland, the GreenFinger Project is going to spread like wildfire. You’ll remember our first GreenFinger video and now we’re aiming for high goals – 500,000 Green Fingers by this time next year! Before you know it, people will be sporting a GreenFinger like they were skinny jeans.
Hello Kate!
And also…
We also quite enjoyed;
- Speaking at the national Shared Planet Conference about the role of young people in working towards the final round of UN talks in Copenhagen in December 2009
- Appearing on the amazing Ruby’s Chicky Boil Ups on Radio Nowhere – to talk about UK YCC and how there should be more songs about climate change! (We’re about 35 minutes in…)
- Making all those origami boats to carry youth messages to Poland – thanks for sending yours in!
Keep up your fantastic work, let’s make sure that we take this chance.
