Hi,

Your exploits make inspiring reading! As one who blows hot-and-cold about environmental issues the efforts of yourself & colleagues make me realise that it is worth holding in mind when making everyday choices.
I actually found your blog when looking for information about taking petitions to Downing Street. I work with a charity supporting people who have caring responsibilities for Family, friends or neighbours. We are planing a campaign leading to taking a petition to Downing Street & wondered how you went about arranging too deliver yours?

Any pointers appreciated!!

Hi Emma!

Thank YOU so much for coming in to speak to us!

We really had a great time, and I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to finally see some recognition by our camp of global issues. It was important to enlighten us a little about it because it's such a terrifying prospect, that we will lose our way of life because we over-exploit the environment (like we have/had been at camp...)
I just tried emailing you and Casper, but I think I got your email wrong, because yours bounced back!

I'm sure Casper will send it on to you, then, so I'll see you on gmail :)

xx

I too have been listening to this book over my muesli. I think his conclusion was right. Its about making the effort, for your own sake, despite the apparent insignificance of your actions. Its like voting. One person's vote isn't likely to win an election on its own. But we value enfranchisement because voting is, or ought to be, an activity from which people gain persoanl satisfaction knowing that they have connected and contributed to the political process.

Norse Mythology tells how the world will end and that it is unavoidable, but Norsemen observed rituals designed to delay that end. Why? For the sake of putting up a good fight, of making a stand.

Thats how the we should tackle environmental responsabilities as individuals. Forget the others, do something heroic!

Hey Emma

Sounds fantastic :)

One tip: Read at least the first few chapters of Clay Shirky: Here Comes Everybody - the power or organising without organisations.

I don't normally recommend reading in response to calls for ideas - but making sure you've got a sense of what the network really means right now is amazingly crucially helpful. (I.e. avoiding getting trapped in old models of coalition building that are already on the wane - and making use of the best of new models...)

You might also find some of the climate change from the 2gether08 festival last week interesting: http://www.2gether08.com

I'd be more than happy to offer the odd bit of input into the process if you need anything participation/web 2.0/e-campaigning related...

Do keep trying to get through on the blogging - t'is inspirational stuff.

I'm blogging this from the Oxford Tube bus (where I was rather suprised to find I could get a net connection) - but on the way back from seeing the premier of Oxfam's Sisters on the Planet films (www.oxfam.org.uk/sisters) all about the impact of climate change on women, and the role of women in taking action to fight climate change.

The focus in those films was on the human cost of climate change - but I was really struck by seeing some of the devastation of the land in Uganda in one of the films - and reading this post is a powerful reminder that they challenges are global (intrinsically so).

It would be interesting though to hear in future blog posts whether the idea of 'Sisters on the Planet' - women being most affected by climate change - and being key actors in the fight against climate change - is one that your experiences match up with...

Sorry for that ramble... looking forward to hearing more soon...
